A customer on the Olympic Peninsula needed a building that could function as a working shop and a garage at the same time. At 60 feet wide, a standard gable would have required a significant mechanical investment to light and ventilate properly. A monitor-style barn’s clerestory zone handled both.
Thirty-three sliding vinyl windows in three sizes circle the building, and three cupolas with weathervanes provide continuous passive ventilation across the full length. The center bay is built around a 12 x 14 commercial roll-up with a chain hoist, flanked by two 10 x 8 overhead doors for the garage side. A 50-pound-rated second-story floor spans 20 x 36 feet above, accessible by a 4-foot staircase, giving this customer dedicated storage or workspace without giving up a square foot of floor space below.
Two-Story Horse Barn in Brush Prairie, WA

This couple came to us for help with their two-story horse barn after their original contractor went quiet and stopped returning calls.
